As a CASA volunteer, one of the first things I learned in training is that cases are rising due to the opioid epidemic. ACEs were mentioned and there seems to be a general understanding that they are connected. This article suggests that it is important to specify opioids versus any other addiction. I’m not sure. When we say that sometimes the problem is the solution, we are indicating that people are addicted to whatever comforts them - or masks the experience of unresolved ACEs. The alternative is to be comforted by the community of people who mirror your value and work to help you find better ways to cope. What is at the heart of our inability to successfully provide this experience for people?
