New Hanover Resiliency Task Force Meeting

Tina Pearson, the Director of the Task Force, began the meeting by inviting the folks attending to place in the chat what they were grateful for...the chat streamed with things such as family, health, friends, pets, the work being done in the community, this group.
Rev. Clifford Barnett introduced the mission and vision of the Task Force and shared what they do.
Rev. Barnett shared a beautiful quote, “If you want to go fast go by yourself, if you want to go far go with others.”

Rev. Barnett shared the Help Now skills from the Community Resiliency Model to count backwards from 20 and to look around the room to name six colors.
Kim Ceaser with Soaring as Eagles shared the mission to support students at Title 1 schools with social and emotional learning and their families as well as provide mentor support.

STEAM for 6th-12th graders coming in January.
Saturday Academy supports 3rd-6th graders at GLOW Academy helping students prepare for the EOGs and teaching resilience skills.
Tina Pearson shared that there are over 100 organizations part of Task Force and 45 signed belief statements. Tina shared the belief statement and how it’s imperative to help create the system change we are working towards and invited organizations who are committed to trauma informed practices to sign the belief statement on the website. https://www.nhcbouncesback.org
J’vanete Skiba, Assistant Director of the Task Force, shared an update about training and workshops happening including the Hip Hop Initiative.

Liz Carborne with Good Shepherd - giving away food, coats, and supplies 12-1 Nov. 24 and every Wednesday at Good Shepherd Center until end of year.
Rev. Barnett: February President’s Day at Life Point Church to do 2,000 days initiative focusing on Early Childhood mental health challenge, Planning meeting will be 10:00 on December 1 at Smart Start.
The next Task Force meeting will be on Tuesday, January 25 at 11:00 a.m.
