Resources for Finding a Trauma-Informed Therapist*

*Please note that we have made a concerted effort to compile a list of search engines to help survivors of trauma located therapists if they wish to receive therapy; however, the below list of resources does not verify all therapists’ specialties, therefore it is strongly recommended that individuals interested in seeking services from a trauma-informed or trauma-certified therapist verify this directly with the provider. Additionally, the below list is not an exhaustive list of all possible clinical modalities for addressing trauma. Furthermore, please note that there are strengths and limitations to any treatment modality, and treatment plans should be determined on an individual basis with the consultation of an appropriate treatment provider.
Anxiety and Depression Association of America's Find a Therapist Directory
The licensed mental health providers listed in this directory specialize in anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and related disorders. Providers include psychologists, psychiatrists, clinical social workers, and other mental health professionals. All providers listed are professional members of ADAA who have chosen to be included in this database.
Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapist - Find a CBT Therapist
ABCT's Find-a-Therapist service gives you access to therapists schooled in cognitive and behavioral techniques, such as trauma-focused cognitive behavioral therapy (TF-CBT).
Association for Contextual Behavior Science - Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) Providers
This search engine can help you find a mental health professional that specializes in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), which is one evidence-based clinical practice modality used to treat trauma.

Dialectical Behavioral Therapy - Linehan Board of Certification
Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is a comprehensive multi-diagnostic, modularized behavioral intervention designed to treat individuals with severe mental disorders and out-of-control cognitive, emotional, and behavioral patterns. The unique value of those listed here is that Dr. Marsha Linehan, as the treatment developer, has participated in and approved the certification standards of the DBT-Linehan Board of Certification (DBT-LBC).
Dialectical Behaviorial Therapy Prolonged Exposure (DBT PE)
The Dialectical Behavior Therapy Prolonged Exposure (DBT PE) protocol is designed to treat PTSD among suicidal, self-injuring, and multi-diagnostic adolescents and adults receiving Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). The DBT PE protocol is based on Prolonged Exposure (PE) therapy, a highly effective treatment for PTSD that utilizes in vivo and imaginal exposure followed by processing as the core treatment strategies. The DBT PE Therapist Directory includes providers who have attested that they have attended an Intensive Training in the DBT Prolonged Exposure Protocol or its equivalent.
EFT Therapy
EFT Tapping helps us tune in to the negative patterns that we form around our uncomfortable thoughts, feelings, or troubling memories. We ‘tap’ on the correct pressure points while bringing the thoughts or emotions into consciousness. The aim is to find relief, relaxation, and promote healing around the emotional or physical issues that hold us back.
EMDR Therapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy is an extensively researched, effective psychotherapy method proven to help people recover from trauma and other distressing life experiences, including PTSD, anxiety, depression, and panic disorders.
Internal Family Systems

NARM
The NeuroAffective Relational Model (NARM) is an advanced clinical training for mental health professionals who work with complex trauma. NARM is a cutting-edge model for addressing attachment, relational and developmental trauma, by working with the attachment patterns that cause life-long psychobiological symptoms and interpersonal difficulties. These early, unconscious patterns of disconnection deeply affect our identity, emotions, physiology, behavior, and relationships. Learning how to work simultaneously with these diverse elements is a radical shift that has profound clinical implications for healing complex trauma. As such, NARM is positioned to become an invaluable treatment option for the Trauma-Informed Care movement as we gain greater understanding of the nature of adverse childhood experience (ACEs).
Pride Counseling
Whether you are struggling with mental health issues, your identity, or just need someone to talk to, we believe help should be accessible to everyone. We noticed that individuals in the LGBTQ community suffer from mental health issues at a disproportionately high rate and we wanted to help. By providing online therapy to the LGBTQ community, we make help accessible and accepting of everyone. We provide a platform for people to get the help they need discreetly, affordably, and conveniently.
Somatic Experiencing
Trauma impacts physical health, mental health, learning, education, and multiple aspects of an individual’s life. Trauma is a fact of life; however, it does not have to be a life sentence. There is hope. Somatic Experiencing (SE™) is a potent method for resolving trauma symptoms and relieving chronic stress. It is the life’s work of Dr. Peter A. Levine, resulting from his multidisciplinary study of stress physiology, psychology, ethology, biology, neuroscience, indigenous healing practices, and medical biophysics, together with over 45 years of successful clinical application. The SE approach releases traumatic shock, which is key to transforming PTSD and other emotional or early developmental trauma-inducing wounds.
