Experiences ranging from rowdy to solemn worked their way through the foliage of Camp Miakonda’s outdoor activities and cabins during Path Finders Camp, a bereavement camp put on by Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
To the general onlooker, the kids and the activities look almost identical to a regular camp, but the focus and resources have a specific push toward kids who have experienced a significant loss.
“It's unique to our area, but nationally, grief camps have become more and more widespread as I think they [people] realize how helpful and beneficial it is to kids,” said Maren Simon, a group leader for ages 14 and 15 at the camp. She also is the bereavement team coordinator at Hospice of Northwest Ohio.
