- Brief overview of intention and purpose of meeting
Updates from June 15th meeting
- Resilience screening in San Diego on June 21st:
Betsy, Marguerite and Mary shared their thoughts and feelings about screening. Mary enjoyed the film, and appreciated the stories, experiences and thoughts that the other attendees had to share. Marguerite enjoyed the film, and was “blown away” with the Human Health Services presence in the room. Marguerite was also impressed by the movement (bringing out awareness without shame or blame) and the systemic level of awareness. “The Principal really walks his talk,” (Cherokee Point Elementary School Principal, Godwin Higa) proclaimed Marguerite. Betsy felt it was “eye opening” to bring it out in the open (the complex trauma that children bring to school), and was impressed by the quality and stimulating nature of the film. Betsy was also very impressed by the courage of the Father that spoke about the Trauma Informed program, at his son’s school. - Paper Tigers screening possibility in Orange County in the fall:
Mary and Marlene will collaborate on scheduling a screening of Paper Tigers, at Mary’s church. Invitations and details will follow.
- Creation of Education Committee for community outreach:
Jennifer, Marguerite, Marlene and Mary are all interested in forming an Education Committee, details will be discussed at the next scheduled meeting.
- Trauma Healing / Resilience Building Series - Presentation
Infant/Early Attachment Disorder and ATTACH, by Connie Hornyak, LCSW: (see attached document)
- Community Engagement
Update: Cross sector invitations with law enforcement, faith-based
organizations, mental health providers, parent support partners, etc. All
members are mindful of the various sectors that they may extend invitations to join ACEs Connection Network.
Marguerite Bonnett: Vision for City of Mission Viejo. Marguerite’s goal
is for Mission Viejo to become a Trauma Informed city.
- Invitation to create a Community Engagement Committee:
Todd Garrison spoke of the brilliant achievements made with Elevate Montana by creating an integrated and cohesive group from various sectors (elevatemontana.org; childwise.org). Such as, Schools, Parents, Business Owners, Community Members, Child-Serving Org., Law Enforcement and Mental Health Professionals; to name a few. The Group’s first steps were to have a showing of Paper Tigers film, and ACE
training. Consequently, Montana is evolving as an established trauma
informed state.
- Orange County banner on ACEs Connection
Marlene Sanders: Pictures throughout Orange County for a collage. We will review at the next meeting as there wasn’t enough time to go over the photo slide show.
- ACEs Connection – Tutorial
Dana presented the tools/resources available for all members on ACEs Connection Network, among the various groups in the Nation.
* Next Action Steps
Marguerite will reach out to her friend that has a connection with the OC
Sheriff's Department.
- Continue to spread the word throughout Orange County, to help bring awareness to ACEs and becoming Trauma Informed.
