Community Health Worker Peer (CHWP) Training Academy
Do you know what it is like to be impacted by violence in your neighborhood?
Do you want to help people heal from their injuries? We invite you to learn more about becoming a Community Health Worker Peer!
Dates: May 15- June 30, 2017
Length of training: 3 days per week for 7 weeks, 90 hours of training
Days of training: 3 days per week- Monday, Wednesday, Friday (M, W, F)
Time of training: 9am-3pm
Location: Drexel University Dornsife Center for Neighborhood Partnerships
Cost: FREE training, participant payment will be provided
This program is designed to train men, ages 18-30, who have experienced violent injury in their own lives to become Community Health Worker Peers. Participants who complete the CHWP Training Academy may be eligible to apply for employment as a CHWP.
In this trauma-informed training series, participants will gain skills in violence prevention/intervention, community education, health system navigation, addressing the impact of trauma, motivational interviewing, how to approach physical health and mental health emergencies, HIPAA regulations and confidentiality, mandated reporter guidelines, group facilitation skills and de-escalation techniques to help young people in Philadelphia who are injured by violence.
