The Community Education Work Group met on Thursday, February 18th at the Health Federation of Philadelphia. The group began with a review of the work they had done in 2015 to convene Philadelphia ACE Task Force professional members with community members to learn more about trauma and messaging. The group then discussed directions for the ACEs Messaging Group (AMG) project, funded by the First Hospital Foundation, giving consideration to target locations for messaging and focus groups, the importance of storytelling, use of art in messaging, unintended consequences of disseminating ACE information, and our ethical imperative to share ACE data and theory.
Given that the upcoming Children’s Crisis Treatment Center (CCTC) Advocacy Event will be focused on ACE messaging, the group discussed possible opportunities to gather ideas from the audience, deciding to look into developing post cards for audience members to provide ideas for messages and indicate their willingness to share their ACE stories. The group was also interested in encouraging reporters at WHYY, the location of the event, to air a story about ACEs and messaging. Group members were excited about these directions and ideas and agreed to re-engage the community members who had been involved in the 2015 work which had been funded by Atlantic Health.
