The Philadelphia ACE Task Force held their full body meeting on September 26th, 2016. The meeting began with a brief community meeting – the group was generally energized and excited. Philadelphia ACE Task Force Staff did a report out on the launch of the website: philadelphiaACEs.org on August 15th. In a little over a month, the website had over 700 views from all over the US and from outside the country. The website had been visited every day since the launch and many spent a good deal of time on the site. Staff provided a brief overview of the site and led a discussion of how organizations could promote the site and how the site could be used to promote the work of the Task Force and its members.
The group then provided workgroup updates with discussions of work that has developed in the Community Education, Workforce Development, Practical Interventions, and Research groups. These groups did not meet much over the summer but did do some behind the scenes work to keep momentum. Some exciting developments include: an upcoming summit to engage youth in developing messages about ACEs and trauma; an event in October to engage the higher ed community about how to integrate ACE information into curricula; the practical interventions group has collected data about ACE interventions and has identified over 60 agencies that are working to address ACEs; and the research group has continued to use the PHL Expanded ACE data to build the academic literature in this topic area. Representatives from the School District of Philadelphia also presented some exciting updates about the focus on trauma-informed practices in education here in Philadelphia.
Task Force staff then presented on the social network analysis completed by Westat through the Mobilizing Action for Resilient Communities (MARC) initiative. Major conclusions include: PATF has a large, multi-sector network; organizations do collaborate with each other but not as much as they could; some sectors that could be natural partners are not yet included in the network; we have significant representation from the health care and behavioral health sectors. The group discussed how the network could use this data in the future to develop our network and take on new projects.
The group then completed a structured networking activity in which members were asked to share information about work they’re doing in their daily jobs as well as work they could use support from the network on. Task Force staff hopes to be able to connect members to each other to enhance collaboration.
