The Workforce Development Workgroup met on November 16th, 2016. The meeting began with introductions and a summary of the ACE Task Force and the history of the work-to-date for this workgroup. There were several new members and guests at this meeting.
Workgroup leaders then provided an overview of work that had been done in the past month, including a updates on the work with the School District of Philadelphia and reflection from the ACEs in Higher Education event. Members reported that the event went incredibly well, with honest and helpful feedback from employers in the region. The group wishes to remain a resource for individuals in the higher ed sector as they move to incorporate trauma-informed care into their curricula. This includes disseminating the toolkit that was created as a part of the work with the Annie E. Casey Foundation.
The group then had a discussion of trauma-informed care in the business sector, hearing from three guests who have been working toward a similar goal. Guests included human resources staff from the Children’s Crisis Treatment Center and program staff from both St. John’s Community Services and Healing Hurt People. Guests shared information about trauma-informed HR practices and utilizing trauma-informed practice to develop the workforce and serve communities in need. Workgroup members were excited to hear this information and discussed possible directions to take this work.
