This course will examine the impact of intimate partner violence (IPV) on children by examining the dynamics of IPV and how these dynamics affect children’s social-emotional development and behavior. Participants will discuss the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) Study, recent brain research, and children’s developmental stages. Effective strategies will be offered for working with children in a classroom setting.
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Describe the dynamics of domestic violence/intimate partner violence
- Understand how the ACE study and brain research connect to our understanding of children’s development
- Learn classroom strategies that support healthy social-emotional development even when a child is exposed to DV/IPV
