The Journal Record hosted the paid roundtable “Trauma in Oklahoma – What Has Happened to Us and What Do We Do Now?” The panel featured mental health and childcare experts, who discussed how trauma affects the mental health of Oklahoma residents and how therapy and awareness can lessen its effects.
The Healthy Minds OK Business Roundtable partners sponsored the event. The group includes nonprofit organizations committed to improving and impacting individual lives and communities through self-discovery, awareness, education, programs and resources.
Panelists met at the Oklahoma City-County Health Department’s auditorium on May 3, 2018, to discuss how Oklahoma ended up as the state with the highest number of Adverse Childhood Experiences and what local experts are doing to minimize the effects of trauma.
The Journal Record editor and associate publisher Ted Streuli was moderator of the panel, which included: Terri White, Commissioner of the Oklahoma Department of Mental Health and Substance Abuse; Bill Citty, Oklahoma City Police Chief; Tricia Everest, Palomar board president; Pat Potts, Potts Family Foundation; District Judge Kenneth Stoner; Dr. R. Murali Krishna, Integris Arcadia Trails Center and Debby Hampton, United Way of Central Oklahoma CEO and president.
