What to Expect
Multi-day conferences that may include travel often beg the questions: is it worth it to me personally and professionally; and can I make the case to my supervisor, if part of the decision.
This conference is designed for counselors, therapists, clinical supervisors, correctional professionals, and program administrators. The emphasis is on six research-based treatment interventions developed by Dr. Covington and presented by her approved certified trainers to deepen your understanding of gender-responsive and trauma-informed services. Each participant selects one curriculum for their in-depth training.
During the day, interactive training workshops provide participants with therapeutic tools that can be implemented in their agencies and used with their clients. This training model allows participants to experience the curriculum as if a client would, engaging in the activities as a group member, to develop a deeper sense of emotional responses – both potential clients’ and their own. While the program materials are designed for group work, the therapeutic exercises can be adapted for use with individuals.
Additional optional evening events are scheduled with Dr. Covington as she presents on the most invisible women in our society, women in the criminal justice system; and on empowering women to take ownership of their recovery and to grow and flourish in sobriety. These intimate highlights with Dr. Covington are based on her soon to be published book, Hidden Healers: The Unexpected Ways Women Survive Prison by Helping Each Other, based on over twenty interviews with formerly incarcerated women, and her best-selling book, A Woman’s Way through The Twelve Steps.
When exploring your professional education needs, consider this:
You can earn up to 19 CEs at this highly anticipated conference from one of the most well respected researchers in the field of gender-responsive treatment. Dr. Covington’s approach is transformative in empowering recovery and well-being for women, men, girls, boys and gender-expansive people.
