Leakey, you ask the right question. For a number of reasons, the trauma issue has not taken hold in Congress with a few exceptions and this is one. The dire circumstances for children and adults in Native Communities and its direct connection with historical trauma provide the impetus for policymakers to examine the impact of trauma. The challenge will be to build on what we learn about improving the lives of Native Americans and apply that wisdom where appropriate to the general population.

Hi Elizabeth, Despite how slow it's going, I think "trauma informed" is picking up steam. Schools, cities, and Minnesota are looking at/doing it. There was even a Trauma Informed Nation webinar last year that the Bureau of Labor Statistics sponsored. I work the treatment end by teaching people tools to generate post traumatic growth using TRE® as the foundational tool. Might be slow for now, but we need to keep focus on this so trauma doesn't once again slip under the radar.

I echo how exciting to see this language in the Senate bill! BTW, on NPR this morning when Senator Patrick Leahy was talking about the woman accusing Kavanaugh, Leahy said the hearing where she is to testify needs to be conducted in a trauma-informed manner! That is BIG progress for him to use that language!
