Leakey, you ask the right question. For a number of reasons, the trauma issue has not taken hold in Congress with a few exceptions and this is one. The dire circumstances for children and adults in Native Communities and its direct connection with historical trauma provide the impetus for policymakers to examine the impact of trauma. The challenge will be to build on what we learn about improving the lives of Native Americans and apply that wisdom where appropriate to the general population.
