Just over a year ago a small group of folks in Amador County came together for a discussion about ACEs and Trauma-Informed Care. We knew that several efforts were underway in the county to bring awareness to childhood trauma, but it was our goal to unite these different conversations into one cohesive voice so that we could best serve families.
One year, and many meetings later, we are now Resilient Amador, a collaborative of community members, organizations, and agencies ready to address childhood trauma from multiple perspectives: prevention, education, support, and advocacy. We held our first community-wide gathering in October and were so excited by the turn-out!
The steering committee has continued to meet as we close in on the holidays and now we are looking ahead to 2019. Four work groups will be forming in the new year and will be developing concrete plans of how we address ACEs and to bring Trauma-Informed approaches to as many people as possible in the county.
If you signed up for one of those work groups at our October gathering, we will be contacting you in January! If you would like to get involved, please get in touch with us: our email is info@amadorcapc.org or give us a call, (209) 223-5921, we look forward to hearing from you!
And keep in mind, the holidays can mean many different things for each of us, we hope that yours are filled with love, and that you remember to take some time for yourself as well during these very busy days.
All the best, and happy new year too!
Tracy Carlton
