Parenting to Prevent & Heal ACEs Handout
This handout is based on the work of Donna Jackson Nakazawa , who worked with us and generously allowed us to paraphrase content from her book, Childhood Disrupted: How Your Biography Becomes Your Biology & How You Can Heal . Donna's book specifically addresses those of us parenting with ACEs (which she also does brilliantly in the powerful documentary, Wrestling Ghosts , which is about parenting and healing from ACEs). Review of “First 60 Days” booklet: Leveraging author’s work and movement could spark revolution to prevent and heal trauma, one precious baby, child, and caregiver at a time.
(This is a review of what I believe is an important new resource for the PACEs [for positive and adverse childhood experiences] science movement. Empathy: Can It Make The Difference?
Emotion has an enormous impact on imprinting memory in our brains. I had an experience when I was 6 years old that included emotion and I have the memory of it all of these many years later. Re: Empathy: Can It Make The Difference?
True empathy is essential to maintaining relationships. We should teach children how to empathize from a young age, we can also use the personality test for children, to better understand our children but they must be 10 years old or older.

Re: Empathy: Can It Make The Difference?
What a vivid memory! It’s amazing how moments like that can stick with us, especially when they’re tied to strong emotions. It sounds really tough for that new girl to be excluded like that, and I can imagine how hard it must have been for you, too, given your shyness. It’s moments like these that really shape our understanding of friendship and acceptance. I hope you’ve been able to reflect on that experience over the years and how it has influenced your views on kindness and inclusion.
