Kellin Foundation and Community Partners Host Children’s Mental Health Forum May 5

The Kellin Foundation, Resilience High Point, and Guilford County System of Care Collaborative for Children’s Mental Health are coming together to host a panel discussion on children’s mental health from 12-1:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 5, via Zoom. Register to attend this free, virtual community event.

The panel, which will feature parents and mental health experts, is part of national Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week 2021. Local partners are joining the National Federation of Families in declaring that it is time to “Flip the Script on Mental Health” and help all community members understand that mental health is a vital to living a healthy life.

“With the turmoil of the last year – from the pandemic to the awakening of racial disparities – more and more, people are recognizing the importance of caring for our mental health. Our country is uniquely primed to challenge myths, biases, and discrimination surrounding mental health. This as an opportunity to change the way we think about our own mental health and that of the children in our community,” said Dr. Kelly Graves, co-founder and executive director of the Kellin Foundation. “We want to destigmatize mental health care for all.”

Speakers will include Jaren Doby, LCMHC, Rev. Frederick Douglas, Family Partner; Jayvon Johnson, a youth pastor from Mount Zion Baptist Church; Dr. Susan Harman, guardian ad litem and former school counselor; Ebony Burnett, a youth advocate with Guilford County Child Advocacy Network; and Jessi Matlock, LCMHCA a Kellin Foundation licensed and bilingual mental health counselor.

This panel discussion will be part of Kellin Foundation’s regular monthly meeting of Resilient Guilford and the Guilford Trauma Provider Network, an action-oriented community coalition that helps building safe, secure and nurturing communities. The event is co-sponsored by Resilience High Point and the Guilford County System of Care Collaborative for Children’s Mental Health.
