In 2015, the Yakima Valley Board of Directors approved a strategic grant to Memorial Hospital. The grant was issued to bring a train-the-trainer model to Yakima County around cultivating trauma-informed practices and building resiliency skills within our community. The National Alliance of Children’s Trust and Prevention delivered the Strengthening Families Train-the-Trainer Curriculum over the course of three days.
The Strengthening Families grant has three phases. Phase I: Identified networks, coalitions, and organizations the initial cohort of trainers and to complete the training. The invitation and open application process yielded 20 professionals who were trained in December of 2015. This cohort forms the South Central WA Strengthening Families Coalition. Phase II: initiated in 2016 and includes a goal of training 400 participants and to reach 3,500 parents. Phase III: will conclude this project with recommendations from the SCWSF Coalition on how to promote and further the reach of trauma-informed practices and building resiliency skills within our communities and the people served by local organizations.
