Resilient Sac ACEs Connection Meeting April 11, 2017

The Resilient Sac monthly meeting went on despite many being away on spring break. The presentation this month was from CASA's Sarah Torres and Crystal Burns. They did a great job informing the group about CASA's nation wide program and the work happening in Sacramento. CASA's goal of building resilient foster youth is enhanced by including a trauma informed lens in the training CASA volunteers receive. CASA is always looking for new volunteers to meet the needs of area foster youth. Currently, only about 20% of eligible youth are working with a CASA. Men-specially men of color are needed by CASA to meet the diverse needs of youth. If you are interested please contact Sarah or Crystal for more information. More information about CASA can be found at sacramentocasa.org/.

We also introduced a new activity for the group. If you have a problem implementing ACES or Trauma Informed Care in your organization bring the particulars to the group and we will use our group mind power to devise possible solutions. This month Carolyn Curtis presented her concerns about being asked by First 5 advise on initiating TIC in their system. Alicia Doktor took great notes and you will find more about this brain storming session soon. If you have questions about implementing TIC or ACEs in your organization please don't hesitate to blog and ask fellow group members to help out.

Hope to see everyone at next months meeting and hopefully at the Ken Epstein event on Thursday afternoon at the State Public Health Auditorium.
