For our October 2017 meeting, we had the honor of hosting two guests: California State Assemblymember McCarty and Sacramento County Supervisor Serna. Assemblymember McCarty and Supervisor Serna are both allies of ACEs work. They joined our Resilient Sacramento meeting to share their ACEs-related efforts and to learn from the expertise of our community partners. 
We, Resilient Sacramento, had several primary goals for the meeting. First, we wanted to give our partners an opportunity to share their ACEs-related work with our representatives. Second, we wanted our representatives to share their related efforts. Finally, we had two specific “asks”: 1) that this be the start of an ongoing dialogue between Resilient Sacramento and their offices, with a request for them to send staff to our regular meetings (joining a representative from Senator Pan’s office who already is an integral part of our group); and 2) to partner to identify effective strategies for creating trauma-informed government systems at the county and statewide levels.
The meeting was a success, with both Assemblymember McCarty and Supervisor Serna agreeing to ongoing conversations and open to sending staff to the regular Resilient Sacramento meetings. We were also able to provide them with on-the-ground real world examples of trauma-informed work and showcase the expertise of our community partners. We had a handful of partners provide 3-minute descriptions of their work currently underway with infants, in preschools, schools, violence prevention programs, and juvenile probation, and had the opportunity to hear from Assemblymember McCarty and Supervisor Serna on their work. We look forward to an ongoing relationship with these two representatives and leaders in the effort to address the effects of adverse childhood experiences in our state.
