Summer Reading List Suggestions for Resilient Sacramento

During the strategic planning meeting for Resilient Sacramento, members shared about books they recently read that they found interesting and insightful. A suggestion was made to start a suggested book reading list. So I am going to start off the list by recommending "The Pilgrimage" by Paulo Coelho. The idea of a spiritual pilgrimage resonated with me. In general, all his books touch a cord in me. I also really enjoyed The Witch of Portobello". What books have you enjoyed lately? Summer reading?

Thanks for starting this, Wendie.

I recommend "March Forward, Girl: From Young Warrior to Little Rock Nine," by Melba Pattillo Beals. Here's the opening quote in her Preface:

"Black folks aren't born expecting segregation, prepared from day one to follow its confining roles. Nobody presents you with a handbook when you are teething and says, 'Here's how you must behave as a second-class citizen.' Instead, the humiliating expectations and traditions of segregation creep over you, slowly stealing a teaspoonful of your self-esteem each day."
