Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) is a short term, evidence-based treatment model for children ages 3-18 who have been impacted by trauma and their caregivers. TF-CBT has been shown to significantly reduce childrenβs post-traumatic stress and other trauma reactions as well as increasing caregiversβ ability to support children in their recovery.
Objectives for the initial 2-day TF-CBT training:
1. Learn about TF-CBT as an evidence-based model to treat children exposed to trauma
2. Identify appropriate cases for TF-CBT using trauma screening and assessment tools
3. Learn how to implement the TF-CBT PRACTICE skills (Psychoeducation and Parenting Skills, Relaxation, Affect Expression and Modulation, Cognitive Coping and Processing, Trauma Narrative Development and Processing, In Vivo Mastery of Trauma Reminders, Conjoint Child-Parent Sessions, and Enhancing Future Safety and Development)
4. Identify cultural and developmental factors that influence treatment
5. Identify symptoms of secondary traumatic stress (STS) and strategies to address STS.
