TRAUMA INFORMED CARE: HOW TO EFFECTIVELY ADDRESS TRAUMA IN COMMUNITY BASED PROGRAMS FOR COMMUNITY ORGANIZATION

Though an unfortunate truth, there is a large population that are effected by trauma. Those working with the public, especially those involved in behavioral health services, need to understand how to approach care from a trauma informed perspective. In order to do that, one must understand trauma, its implications, and learn ways to approach people who have been effected by it. In this workshop you will learn all about trauma informed care through curriculum that follows the guidelines of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) Trauma Informed Care in Behavioral Health Services.

Learning Objectives:

• Find out the “3 E’s of the Definition of Trauma” and “The Six Guidelines for Trauma Informed Care”
• Appreciate the high prevalence, widespread impact, and signs and symptoms of trauma
• Recognize paths for healing with trauma informed, evidenced based and emerging best practices
• Learn how to integrate knowledge about trauma into policies, procedures, practices and settings.
• Review the 10 Domains of Implementation
• Review and discuss the Six Key Principles of Trauma-Informed Approach
• Understand and learn how to avoid re-traumatization and secondary trauma
• Become part of a community dedicated to reducing “Adverse Childhood Experiences”.
• Learn how you may qualify for grants by being involved with trauma-informed care
