Front-line and case workers for the TANF program (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) are at high risk for compassion fatigue. They hear approximately 30 stories of trauma, abuse and hardship each day. The Resilient Sac monthly meeting went on despite many being away on spring break. The presentation this month was from CASA's Sarah Torres and Crystal Burns. They did a great job informing the group about CASA's nation wide program and the work happening in Sacramento. CASA's goal of building resilient foster youth is enhanced by including a trauma informed lens in the training CASA volunteers receive. CASA is always looking for new volunteers to meet the needs of area foster youth.

On June 1st Resilient Sacramento ACEs Connection representatives Carolyn Curtis, Barbara Stern, and Wendie Skala met with Sacramento Superintendent Don Nottoli to share how they are working together to reduce the number of Adverse Childhood Experiences in the greater Sacramento area and provide opportunities to promote healing and increase resiliency. Superintendent Nottoli expressed interest in helping Resilient Sacramento increase awareness about trauma-informed practices.

Couples that experience this relationship dissatisfaction many time experience post partum depression. This depression can lead to fathers disengaging in the family system. Fortunately, Bringing Baby Home deals with those issue.

He is going to facilitate meetings with health and human services and a presentation to the board as starters. We told him we would like to have a trauma informed county. I believe he thought we could work toward that. Carolyn Curtis suggested this would help with federal funding in light of possible TNAFF reform.
