Our speaker for the August PACEs Connection Cooperative of Communities meeting will share ways of building community connections we may not have thought of before – starting with trust in the earliest and most important relationships – as well as some challenging news, exciting resources, and timely inspiration.
Cooperative of Communities members and members of their communities are invited to join us tomorrow, August 8, 2023, at 10 a.m. PT, Noon CT, and 1 p.m. ET when we welcome Deborah McNelis, M Ed, founder of Brain Insights and creator of the Neuro-Nurturing® model of early child brain development, which is actually part of a platform to support your community’s growth and well-being, “one precious child, one invaluable insight at a time.”
“It’s not unlike building synaptic connections in the brain, to make nurturing babies, children, and adults in their lives foundational in building community,” said McNelis.
The author of a wildly popular new booklet, “The First 60 Days, The Most Influential Days of Infant Brain Development”, in which she “busts” 22 potentially harmful myths about caring for newborns, McNelis, an early brain development specialist, is a feisty former kindergarten teacher and whose series of ringed card booklets on “Neuro-Nurturing® came out of parents asking her what they could do at home to help their children learn.
“I started sharing simple ideas for learning and overall development that easily and naturally can take place in everyday life. Several years later after advances in brain science took place, I matched the activity ideas with insights about the brain, and launched my company Brain Insights and the age specific series of ringed book packets in 2008,” said the affable McNelis, herself the mother of two and grandmother of five.
“It may not be easy for a busy parent to think of fun and valuable ideas or to remember an idea they read somewhere. These handy, pocket-sized, ringed books make it easy to come up with something fun and easy to do, especially when parents are tired, children are having meltdowns, and everyone’s in need of an energy shift. Another good thing? These activities don’t cost a penny!” she added.
A community builder, early brain development advocate (she actually worked with Dr. Bruce Perry in Wisconsin about 30 years ago) McNelis is now an internationally respected and recognized speaker, educator, and author. She will join us Tuesday to share her community connections plan, brain development news and inspiration, and to answer questions.
She is especially eager to share insights as to why she created "The First 60 Days" booklet, in which she shares information about 2018 research published by Dr. Bruce Perry and associates detailing the importance of the first 60 days of life in brain development.
