The 30th annual San Diego International Conference on Child and Family Maltreatment kicks off next week at the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina. This annual event brings an estimated 1,800 - 2,000 multidisciplinary professionals in the child abuse field from around the world each year.
This year, the Academy on Violence and Abuse (AVA) is hosting one of the preconference sessions on Sunday, January 24th from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM. This session, titled: Building Trauma Informed, Resilient and Healthy Communities: Regional, National, and Global Perspectives boasts an all star cast of presenters, including Dr. Vincent Felitti, Dr. David Corwin, and Dr. Randell Alexander, just to name a few. This event is open to the public, even if you are not attending the conference, and there is still space available for anyone who can make it to San Diego on Sunday. There is a $175 registration fee (discount provided for new and current AVA members).
Dr. Felitti will provide an overview of the Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACE) study findings and current developments. The session will explore the associations between childhood trauma and long-term health and behavior. Current approaches to addressing interpersonal violence will be discussed, in addition to strategies for mobilizing local leaders in your community.
