Center offers programs and outreach for youth, veterans and former inmates.
Local officials announced this week that a new resource center has opened in National City with programs aimed at preventing crime and improving quality of life for residents.
The Community Action Resource Engagement Center, also known as the CARE center, is the product of a collaboration between the District Attorney’s Office, Probation Department and other city and county agencies.
District Attorney Bonnie Dumanis said in a news release that the center will bring a variety of resources directly to southeastern San Diego residents and others in the South Bay. She noted that over the past 12 years, her office has focused on issues related to community intervention, crime prevention and a concept known as prisoner re-entry, which is meant to prepare inmates to be self-sufficient and law-abiding on the outside.
Among the programs that will be offered at the center are a youth advisory board that provides mentoring and homework help, a program that provides resources for veterans, as well as program referrals for training and workshops to assist formerly incarcerated people.
