Feeding San Diego is expanding its popular school pantry program to serve nearly twice as many households, addressing the growing need for food assistance among local families.
The program, which previously served around 6,000 households, will now reach 11,000 households. It provides free food, typically distributed twice a month, at schools with a high number of students eligible for free or reduced-price meals.
"There's just a lot on our families' plates and a lot of choices that families have to make - whether it's choosing between health care and food or current bills and food, we like to provide the food to take that burden off of their plates so they can focus on other areas," Sam Duke, the Director of Programs at Feeding San Diego said.
