Take the Pledge to Prevent Domestic Violence!
Opening Ceremony for DV Awareness Month to be Held on October 7th
WHAT: Officials, community members, domestic violence and social service agencies and criminal justice staff will come together to bring awareness to domestic violence.
San Diego County is known throughout the country as a leader of collaboration in serving victims of domestic violence and seeking innovative ways to prevent abuse. While the rest of the country saw dramatic increases in domestic violence last year, San Diego County fared much better.
In 2020, a total of 17,679 incidents were reported to law enforcement, a 1% increase from 2019 (17,430). Source: SANDAG
In 2020, there were 11 domestic violence homicide victims of which the suspect was a current or former intimate partner: a 15% decrease from 2019. There were also three other homicide victims (e.g., family member, new boyfriend, bystander) who died alongside the domestic violence victims. Three offenders died by suicide following the homicide. - 2020 Domestic violence homicide victims’ names will be read to bring reflection to these lives lost
- Videos of hope, agency partners, and youth “Taking the Pledge” to stop abuse and violence in our community
- At dusk on Friday Oct 8th, the San Diego County Administration Center on San Diego's waterfront will be lit up in purple to bring awareness to domestic violence.
