Harmonium has had the pleasure of collaborating with San Diego State University graduate student, Christine Ma, to offer trauma-informed trainings to fellow students and community members in San Diego.
When Christine learned about trauma-informed trainings, she applied for a mini grant offered by the University to students. This grant enables students to bring programs to campus that would enhance their education.
Rosa Ana Lozada, CEO of Harmonium, and Heidi Echeverria, MARC Project Manager, worked closely with Christine to refine the training for college students.
Over 60 students and community members, working across a large number of disciplines such as probation, education, social work, and health participated. Students learned about the impact trauma has on early childhood development, and neurological development. Students were also invited to think of their profession as an opportunity to advocate for their clients and were provided with resources on how to do so. In the end, students shared how they planned to integrate self-care techniques in their academic and professional lives.
