Adrienne and Shelly provided an educational and informative presentation on the partnership between Leah’s Pantry and the San Diego Food Bank.  They highlighted the history of food banks, how they have evolved and how their partnership has created more trauma-informed services in food banks throughout the county.  Examples include: Focusing on the dignity of the recipients (ex. lengthening distribution hours to avoid waits in long lines); educating staff on trauma and the trauma of being food insecure; considering the requests of the recipients for food congruent with community, cultural or religious traditions; and increased provision of nutritious foods and fresh produce.  See attached PowerPoint, Transforming the Role of Food handout, and Meaning of Food and Life Questionnaire for more information.

Cindy Davidson reported the MARC committee is looking at outcomes as the grant ends.  Four members volunteered to share examples of accomplishments in the 4 goal areas.  Cindy led us through an exercise where members identified an accomplishment in one of the goal areas, then divided into groups to share these.  A worksheet to gather outcomes has also been sent out to members.  Accomplishments gathered will be used in completing the MARC outcome report.
