We at Harmonium value the simple ways we can integrate trauma-informed practices throughout our organization’s culture. Ensuring that staff connect trauma-informed practices to the Agency’s mission, core values, and initiatives helps to integrate mindful practice into our daily interactions.
First and foremost, our workforce is about individuals.
Hosting a Tea for Two with all 22 staff housed in Harmonium’s Administrative Office was a great way to get to know staff as individuals and not just as professionals.
Setting a calm environment while pouring and drinking tea with my “guests” proved to be an invaluable half hour experience each time. Listening to their rich stories about family, travel, and hobbies was very inspirational. What better way to integrate trauma-informed practice than to take the time to listen to someone!
TIPS
- Find ways of connecting with staff as individuals - they, in turn, will see your human side.
- Model building positive relationships - your staff are watching and learning from you.
- Give people your time - it is a great sign that you care.
