Each year, the Children, Youth of Care (CYFSOC) Training Academy hosts an annual conference for our children, youth and families system of care. This year, our conference Unpacking Hope: Understanding the Unique Needs of Children, Youth and Families Experiencing Homelessness will address the impact of trauma and the resilience of children, youth and families experiencing homelessness.
We are thrilled to announce that our keynote speaker this year is Bryan Samuels. Bryan Samuels is the Executive Director of Chapin Hall at the University of Chicago, one of the nationβs leading research and policy centers focused on improving the well-being of children and youth, families, and their communities. Under Samuelsβ leadership, Chapin Hall has continued to build its reputation as a center for excellence in data analysis, innovative research, and policy expertise. He has also helped establish Chapin Hall as a national leader on issues ranging from child well-being to youth homelessness.
Conference participants will also have the opportunity to hear from a powerful and interactive panel of individuals who have experienced homelessness. Panel participants will share their points of view, their concerns, their struggles and their successes. Additionally, conference participants will be able to choose from a variety of robust workshop presentations that will cover topics ranging from partnering with the education system, to providing clinical services and using innovative tools and resources that support self-sufficiency, to identifying culturally responsive interventions when working with children, youth and families experiencing homelessness.
In addition to our conference presentations, participants will also have the opportunity to learn about and engage with a variety of programs and services via a resource fair that will be available throughout the day.
The conference is on Thursday, April 12, 2018 from 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM at the Crowne Plaza Mission Valley Hotel.
