In this series of videos, SDUSD's transformation of their discipline policies by creating trauma-informed schools and embedding restorative practices for students, staff and families, are highlighted in two schools in the City Heights neighborhood: Cherokee Point Elementary and Crawford High School.
The California Endowment funded this series of videos, which features interviews with SDUSD Superintendent Cindy Marten, Cherokee Point Principal Godwin Higa and several others. One video shows the panel discussion following a screening of the documentary, Paper Tigers, last October.
The evening started with a brief introduction by Council President Pro Tem Marti Emerald of the San Diego City Council. Megan Burks, a reporter for KPBS, moderated the panel that included Superintendent Cindy Marten, San Diego Unified School District, Mack Jenkins, Chief Probation Officer for San Diego County, Jose Granados, a parent of Cherokee Point Elementary Students, Mey-Ling Lazo, Larissa Galeana, and Edith Okello, students at Crawford High School Academy of Law.
