Attendees of this presentation will learn the following objectives:
* understand that traumatic experiences are inherently complex and occur with a broad context that includes children’s personal characteristics, life experiences and current circumstances;
* be able to evaluate a wide range of reactions to trauma and loss experienced by a child and family; be able to examine the manner in which danger and safety are core concerns in the lives of traumatized children;
* and be able to apply a framework for intervention which addresses the level of functioning of primary care-giving environments, including parent/caregiver and family unit.This current presentation will be highlights from a 5-day intensive course Ruth teaches that was developed by the National Center for Social Work Trauma Education and Workforce Development on the core concepts of trauma for the mental health treatment of children and adolescents.
The San Diego Chapter of CSCSW holds its meetings on the first Thursday of the month from September through June from 5:30 to 7:30 at the Jewish Family Service building, 8788 Balboa Avenue in Kearny Mesa. Meetings begin with a half hour of mingling, networking, and community building, followed by our program. CEU programs meet the requirements for 1.5 hours of continuing education credit for MFTs, LPCCs, and LCSWs as specified by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences; CEUs are FREE to our members, $15 for non-members.
