Community mentors are engaging high-risk, gang-involved youth at multiple points along the alternative to incarceration (ATI) continuum. The evidence-based and trauma-informed strategies of community mentors to improve measurable health outcomes and promote health and wellness, equity and social interaction, has garnered respect as a viable community resource. They have collaborated with juvenile justice systems stakeholders, social services and community organizations to reduce reliance on youth incarceration in Southeastern San Diego and City Heights
o This conference will highlight the long-standing work and legitimacy of community mentors with lived experience, past, present and future. The summit will bring together individuals who represent the mentoring movement: grassroots mentors with lived experience in juvenile and criminal justice system, key juvenile justice leaders, government and civic leaders
