Re-Thinking Ethics and Policitics in Suicide Prevention through a Lens of Critical Suicidology

                             3rd Annual Social Justice Symposium

SDSU's Counseling and Social Change Club will be hosting its 3rd Annual Social Justice Symposium "Re-Thinking Ethics and Politics in Suicide Prevention Through a Lens of Critical Suicidology" on Sunday, April 14th from 9:30 am to 4:00 pm at SDSU Montezuma Hall. This event is free and open to the public however you must register to attend.

The field of critical suicidology argues that traditional biomedical approaches to suicide tend to ignore social, historical and political factors that contribute to human suffering and suicidal experiences. Critical suicidologists are interested in working towards more expansive approaches to prevention and intervention that embrace an alternative critical lens. This symposium will explore how narrative ideas can support critical approaches to expand possibilities for living.

Please read carefully:

The symposium will consist of a morning and afternoon session. In the morning (9:30 to 12:30 pm), Dr. Jennifer White and Jonny Morris will provide an overview of the key principles of critical suicidology followed by a live interview with a witnessing team.

In the afternoon (1:30 to 4:00 pm), symposium guests will be invited to join smaller group conversations to further explore the principles and practices of critical suicidology and the relevance these principles have to their personal and professional lives. You must register for the session(s) that you plan to attend. We hope you will consider registering for both sessions!
