Burlingame Public Library is proud to announce our community Book to Action program “Burlingame Reads,” running March-July 2021, with support from California Center for the Book, and with Community Partners Citizens Environmental Council, Sustainable San Mateo County, Farming Hope, San Mateo County Poet Laureate Aileen Cassinetto, and Nethra Samarawickrema and Yuri Zaitsev of the Listening Lab.
In the spirit of READ, DISCUSS, and ACT, we have chosen the book The Parable of the Sower by Octavia Butler, and supplemented with Emergent Strategy by Adrienne Maree Brown. With these titles, we aim to spur discussions and action around themes of environmental justice, equity, and community care, as we consider Butler’s speculative fiction and how we can address concerns locally. With our community partners, we will be presenting workshops, speakers, and other opportunities to engage on the subject.
We invite Teens and Adults to join us for this series! Free copies of Parable of the Sower are available while supplies last via our Curbside Pickup service – sign up for your copy and event notices on the Burlingame Public Library website: https://www.burlingame.org/.../explore/burlingamereads.php
