A series of Lunch & Learn sessions followed the Bridges to Resilience conference held in May. The first in the series was hosted by Ventura County.
In July, the Partnership for Safe Families & Communities of Ventura County hosted the first Lunch & Learn Session: Mitigating ACEs for Families with Children Ages 0-5. The session educated participants on how sustaining safe, stable, nurturing relationships and environments for all children and families can prevent adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), increase positive childhood experiences (PCEs), and help all children reach their full potential.
Two Ventura County evidence-based programs, the Nurse-Family Partnership and Parents as Teachers, demonstrated support of the HOPE model in developing Positive Childhood Experiences in partnership with parents. Examples of positive experiences include:
- Promoting children’s health and well-being
- Allowing children to form strong relationships and connections
- Cultivating positive self-image and self-worth
- Providing a sense of belonging
- Building skills that promote resilience
These programs also yielded systems-outcomes by helping to facilitate network partnerships with local community-based organizations. The importance was exemplified by presenter Seleta Dobrosky, Director of Public Health Nursing at Ventura County Public Health, who stated: “If we align public systems and community partners for integrated whole child, whole family and whole community care, then children and families will have equitable access to services, support, and wellness opportunities – and we will strengthen protective factors; decrease formal system involvement; and increase wellness for generations to come.”
Session recordings and materials now available.
