Today is International Nurses Day.  Welcome Every Baby Family Connects Nurses have stepped up their work during these trying times in our community; providing telehealth visits, Zoom Mothers’ Groups, a baby scale loan program and porch delivery of First 5 CA Newborn Kits.   Americans rank nurses as the most trusted profession.  Parents are already reporting that a WEB-FC Nurse telehealth-visit provides valuable guidance, plus peace of mind.  Often, just talking to families in general about how they’re affected by the current situation, which we know exacerbates stress from adverse childhood experiences, is important.  WEB-FC Nurses are also offering mindfulness exercises, Community Resilience Model (CRM©) activities, and advising patients to try and stick to routines to help reduce stress.  Some examples of comments made by mothers include:

During these scary, daunting and unchartered times of a pandemic, the WEB nurses have only stepped their game up. To my surprise they have learned how to do zoom Telehealth meetings, created an online breastfeeding support group that I joined, and continue to try and think of ways that they can assist new moms. This has given me comfort in a time where I, as well as the rest of our community, have felt so isolated. I feel like they truly do care and have my best interest at heart. Having a baby can be somewhat isolating at times and then to have the current situation of the Coronavirus occur it has made that isolated feeling intensify. It has been so nice to have the contact and support of the WEB nurse right now to put my mind at ease about multiple issues, including breast-feeding and new baby questions.
