A group of 40 community leaders representing a wide variety of service sectors came together on April 16, 2018 to meet with Dr. Nadine Burke Harris, a pioneering physician who delivers targeted care to vulnerable children who have been affected by Adverse Childhood Experiences. Each participant received a copy of Dr. Burke Harris' book, "The Deepest Well" to prepare them for the discussion about what might be possible for Santa Barbara County.
Dr. Burke Harris inspired those who attended to envision a future where kids in Santa Barbara County are routinely screened for Adverse Childhood Experiences, where interventions for kids with ACEs are deployed early, and where supportive services are available, accessible and delivered by professionals who are skilled in trauma-informed and resiliency-focused practices. The interest and commitment among participants was exciting!
Many of these leaders will come together again on June 6, 2018 to continue the conversation and determine next steps for helping kids and communities strengthen resilience throughout Santa Barbara County. Stay tuned to see what develops...
