In this second webinar on HOPE, the focus will move from the evidence and theory underlying the HOPE framework as we roll up our sleeves and dive into ideas for practice transformation. The session will include a review of HOPE, examples of how organizations are using the HOPE framework to improve care, and interactive exercises and activities designed to stimulate ideas about moving from theory to practice.

This webinar will:

  • Describe the HOPE framework, including the four building blocks of HOPE
  • Apply the HOPE framework to address implicit bias in practice
  • Give examples of HOPE-informed approaches to ACEs

unnamed [4)Robert Sege, MD, PhD has returned to Tufts Medical Center, where he now directs the Center for Community-Engaged Medicine at the Institute for Clinical Research and Health Policy studies at Tufts Medical Center, and is a Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at Tufts University School of Medicine. Dr. Sege led the Division of General Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine, before he joined Boston Medical Center in 2008. Dr. Sege is nationally known for developing health systems approaches to preventing child abuse and neglect by better supporting families. He is a Senior Fellow at the Center for the Study of Social Policy in Washington and serves on the boards of the Massachusetts

Children’s Trust and Prevent Child Abuse America. He has served on the American Academy of Pediatrics’ Committee on Child Abuse and Neglect. He is a graduate of Yale College, received his PhD from MIT and his MD from Harvard Medical School, and is board-certified in Pediatrics and Child Abuse Pediatrics. Bob lives in the Boston area, where he and his wife raised their three children.


unnamed [2)Dr. Baraka D. Floyd is a pediatrician at a federally qualified health center and Associate Chair of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford School of Medicine. She is also Medical director of the Peninsula Family Advocacy Program: A Medical Legal Partnership (FAP), and core faculty for HOPE: Healthy Outcomes of Positive Experiences. She has spearheaded local initiatives around post-partum/perinatal depression, behavioral health, educational supports, screening for and holistically addressing social determinants of health and diaper insecurity. As part of Stanford’s Pediatric Advocacy Program and the Mid-Peninsula Pediatric Advocacy Coalition, she recently co-founded Diapers at the Doctor, a sustainable clinic based diaper distribution program. Dr. Floyd is also a member of the Stanford Pediatrics Advancing Anti-Racism Coalition (SPAARC) Leadership Team charged with addressing racism via 7 key areas ranging from community engagement to training. Parallel to her local efforts, Dr. Floyd has served as a medical consultant for DULCE (Developmental Understanding and Legal Collaboration for Everyone) and MLPB (formerly Medical Legal Partnership in Boston), both focused on working upstream with patients, families, and care teams to address the social determinants of health.
