Thank you to all that participated in today’s ACES meeting. Lisa Manthe lead us through a meditation that she does with her students. Lisa shared with us that she begins and ends every school day with meditation to help foster routine and a sense of grounding for the mind body connection.
Lisa Manthe from New Directions School joined us to share her experience using art therapy as a way of healing. New Directions school was one of the first Trauma Informed Schools in Sonoma County. They work with students on their journey of healing through group work, movement, poetry, creative journaling, reflective practice and much more. New Directions School serves students ages 12 to 22. They currently have about 30 students at their school and many the students have social/emotional issues and have difficulty in a normal school setting due to experiencing trauma and who need the support of a small school setting and intensive counseling support. New Directions School works together with students, families, school districts and other support providers to put into action the factors to support healthy students: Social and Emotional Competence of Children, Social Connection, and Parental Resilience.
