The Sonoma County ACEs Connection Steering Committee voted to create a scholarship for educational professionals to attend the upcoming "Beyond Paper Tigers" conference in Walla Walla, Washington. This event is sponsored by our fellow MARC grant community in Washington, and offers Sonoma County the potential to build on our many local screenings of Paper Tigers.
"The documentary Paper Tigers sparked renewed interest in the effects of chronic, overwhelming stress and trauma on children’s development. Trauma-informed care is emphasized more than ever. Yet, parents, educators, clinicians, mental health workers and law enforcement alike still struggle to understand the impacts of trauma on brain development in a concrete and tangible way. This conference will provide concrete strategies that operationalize what brain science tells us will be most effective. If you want to know more about how trauma impacts the brain and what to do about it, please join us for this exciting conference."
The conference is planned for June 28-29, with a pre-conference social planned for June 27.
Walla Walla's work to conduct 500 community presentations to raise awareness about ACEs and Resiliency was the inspiration for Sonoma County ACEs Connection's goal to develop a Speaker's Bureau and ACEs Fellowship program. Conference organizers and participants may have valuable insights to share with our community as we attempt to stimulate the same level of increased awareness and begin to move into action.
