As a member of the Sonoma County ACEs Connection, I would like to help stir interest among folks to be part of the ACEs Connection. Over the months that I have been part of the ACEs Connection, I have observed that your group is missing from the table — and, as I see it, it’s a big loss for everyone concerned.
I know for a fact that you folks are busy as can be and hardly have time for what may seem like “yet another meeting”. But, I’d like to assure you that the ACEs Connection has developed into an important and much-needed entity in Sonoma County, as it has in other counties throughout California.
People are finally “catching on” that ACEs (and, therefore, trauma-informed care) has got some serious science behind it that pushes it further into not being just a behavioral health issue, but a community issue that involves just about every discipline and institution (medicine, education, criminal justice, etc.) there is.
The ACEs Connection group is looking at ways to penetrate the community with information about ACEs. ACEs Connection Members are going out to schools, for instance, and making presentations to school officials.
We recently had the opportunity to view a film called “Paper Tigers” that shows that a trauma-informed school can be a source of healing and positive change and growth for its students.
I’m attaching some information for your review. Also, included is information about a TED Talk that’s invaluable in understanding the impact of ACEs on human beings from birth to death.
I hope you’re able to join us in this valuable work. This train would prefer not to leave the station without you.
Thank you.
~ Kate
