My friend Isabel with Raizes Collective is putting together a special el Día de Muertos event, and invites you to sponsor an altar. (Sponsorship form attached.)
The entire community is also invited to come out and celebrate during two special community events.
Isabel writes:
Raizes continues to be committed to making platforms for artists to mobilize and bring our community together to begin the process of healing through our arts and cultural programming.
We are asking for your support by coming together and sponsoring our second annual Day of the Dead or Dia De Los Muertos celebration to be held at the Roseland Village Neighborhood Center from Nov.1st-Nov. 3rd.
Last year we had over 500 attendees with various organizations who participated in setting up altares to commemorate the 43 students disappeared in Ayotzinapa, Mexico.
This year’s theme Celebrando La Vida or A Celebration of Life will be commemorating those 42 lives currently known to have been lost in the recent Sonoma County fires.
We believe this important cultural celebration is the perfect opportunity to bring those affected, volunteers, community organizations, government agencies and those agencies who will be focusing on the rebuilding of our community to celebrate those lives recently lost as well as to honor our ancestors and loved ones passed and support their spiritual journey. Celebrating loved ones with friends and family and in community is a very important tradition in the Latino community and we hope you can join us.
We will have one large community altar for individuals and organizations who wish to participate as well as opportunities for individual organizations to set up their own altar as well (see PDF sponsorship below).
The larger community altar will be once again curated by artist Martin Zuniga. The set up of the altars is scheduled for Wednesday, November 1st from 7-9pm. This day is for the organizations and/or individuals that will be contributing to setting up altars.
The second day is scheduled for public viewing along w/music and poetry through out, and the final day we are scheduled to have a Cumbia Dance with a DJ which is still to be announced.
With your support we hope to make this event free to the public and hope to stipend the artists which will be involved in performing including the DJ.
If you would like to meet with me or speak with me directly about any logistics I can be reached at raizescollective (a) gmail.com. Feel free to forward to anyone you might think would be interested.
If you are planning on participating please submit this form to me by Monday, October 30th. I can arrange to have myself or a volunteer pick up the form and sponsorship fee. Thank you for your continued support.
