First District Supervisor Susan Gorin invites community members to apply for positions on local policy making bodies.

The “vacancy” list on the site shows available opportunities for involvement.
“Local government leaders want to hear your thoughts and your ideas on how to make improvements to a variety of issues in our community,” said Supervisor Susan Gorin in a press release announcing the vacant seats. “Please consider joining one of over 75 Sonoma County boards and commissions and let your voice be heard.”
In the 1st District, which covers the Sonoma Valley and parts of southeast Santa Rosa, Gorin is calling for applicants for three commissions. Here’s how they’re described on the county website:
Commission on Human Rights: One vacancy. Working with the residents of the Sonoma County community, the Commission on Human Rights represents the needs, issues and concerns in areas that affect human rights. The CHR works to bring attention to the issues faced by marginalized or disadvantaged members of the communities to those in elected office.
Commission on the Status of Women: One vacancy. In partnership with the community of women of Sonoma County, the Commission on the Status of Women, represents the needs, issues and concerns to our local government officials to ensure that women’s issues are in the forefront when considering policy and actions that will affect women on local, state and national levels.
Mental Health Board: One vacancy. The Mental Health Board acts as a community focal point for mental health issues by reviewing and evaluating the community’s mental health needs, services, facilities and special problems. It advises the Board of Supervisors and the Behavioral Health Director regarding any aspect of local mental health programs.
