On March 16 & 17 in Los Angeles, Echo Parenting & Education is convening the Great and the Good of the trauma-informed schools for a national forum (international, actually, thanks to our Canadians registrants). This forum is a chance to deepen your knowledge about childhood trauma, participate in resiliency-building sensory activities, and to learn about best and promising practices from pioneers around the nation who are working to create trauma-informed schools. And it wouldn't be an Echo conference if we weren't also going to hear from parents and students on the front lines.
Our keynotes are Dr. Ross Greene, who is the author of "The Explosive Child" and "Lost at School" (he was also featured in this article that was making the rounds on social media), Susan Craig, who wrote the pioneering "Reaching and Teaching Children Who Hurt" and has just published a new book "Trauma-Sensitive Schools: Learning Communities Transforming Children's Lives, K-5". Opening the second day is Pia Escudero, Head of School Mental Health for LAUSD, who has been championing trauma-informed care in the district and has been working with Echo to train all 300 of the Psychiatric Social Workers in her department in trauma-informed, nonviolent child-raising. She will be joined by the inimitable Jane Stevens who is nothing if not trauma-informed. (Jane will be using a phone app to get a snapshot of ACES scores from the audience - anonymously, of course.)
Our impressive Advisory Committee (the aforementioned 'Great and Good') helped us select from a slew of workshop submissions. The only problem you are going to have is choosing between the breakout sessions: Robbyn Peters Bennett and George E Davis (Director of Psychiatry for New Mexico Department of Children and Families) will talk about co-regulation; you will get to hear Ron Hertel and Mona Johnson from Washington State, known to most of us for their Compassionate Schoolsmodel; and John Miscak will be conducting a mini 3-hour version of his training on Healing the Inside Child.
Did you know that there is soon to be an educational companion to PAPER TIGERS? We are proud and pleased to announce that we will be screening film clips from this new product during the conference.
That's just a sample of what we have in store - to find out more visit our website. While you are there, don't forget to purchase your tickets - but hurry, the early bird price expires at the end of the month!
