***Community Giving to Wildfire Victims Overwhelming***
Local organizers of a grass roots effort to collect material donations for victims of the Almeda and Holiday Farm Fires are calling it an overwhelming success. Two van loads of household and emergency supplies were taken to both locations. Community donations filled those. Two First Student Bus Company busses will be ready to deliver their loads once a site that can accept is designated.
Some of the larger donations included 10 beds from American Mattress Store, 2 Travel Trailers from Gibs RV for firefighters to use in the upper McKenzie rural fire district. Many individuals donated cash the largest from O'Bryan Family Dentistry, and Grocery Outlet provided snacks for firefighters. Tremendous support came from local citizens who donated clothing, household essentials, Hygiene Products, pet supplies, tents, pet carriers and sleeping bags.
An army of individual volunteers and others from Coos Head Food Co-op and United Way of SW Oregon helped sort and load the vans and busses. The collection was held at 7-Devils Brewing in downtown Coos Bay over the weekend.
