TIC is VITAL to help people understand and cope successfully with the more frequent and extreme traumas and toxic stresses generated by climate change. As Oprah says---the starting point of TIC is to shift the initial question from "what's wrong with them" to "what happened to them" when trying to understand and respond effectively to people who end up harming themselves, others, or the natural environment as a result of climate change enhanced adversities.
I encourage everyone to watch the show and then quickly write letters to the editor or submit an Opinion Editorial to your local newspaper, post comments on blogs, and in other ways use her presentation as an opportunity to raise awareness of TIC. Talk about how important TIC is to understand not only ACEs, but also the growing mental health and psycho-social-spiritual maladies seen worldwide as a result of the disasters and toxic stresses generated by climate change that circle back and create more ACEs.
